Extraordinary stories about ordinary people’s lives

The work of Sudha Murthy always fascinated me, the way he weaved characters while writing fiction. Past days I got a chance to read her nonfiction anthology. Basically It is a collection of her life-stories, she visited almost whole world, either it is small village or the foreign countries.  She grabbed few lessons from the person she met, the place she visited and shared with us in a form of book.

Literally first story “Bombay to Bangalore” of that book is amazingly surprising. Book is all about How one’s life can changed with your little help.

It is the book you should gift your kids. In fact it should be involved in school syllabus. The lesson she was trying to bestow upon us, that is what today’s generation needed. In this techie world where child lost the feeling of innocence, compassion and love… each story of this book making us understand that no matter how much we succeed we need to be loved at last.

As title suggests Sudha Ji described an incident while she was travelling to a village and somehow she stuck in the middle, there was a house where milk seemed a kind of luxury.  It is strange to know that people still yearn for the basic things, needed for living.

“Understand that life is a short journey. In that short journey, if you can show compassion to others, show it now”

Like this there are many stories she collected from all over the India, the story of simple, mango people who contributed our society in their own way. That simply shows that Intention matters. Like a milk-maid arranged a pond for her village while British people ruling over India.

On the other hand Author shared a story of a person who forgot the meaning of gratitude. One story tells about the group “Helping The Dead” It was quite amazing to read such people who often remain anonymous but helping the world, without any expectations. Real humanity saviour!

The last story reveals few life lessons, most basic still Important for living.

• Children tell the truth and are the real judges of one’s talent.
• You cannot substitute many things in life with money.
• Money changes a person completely. Very few people can withstand the lure of money and they are difficult to find.
• If we keep collecting material things, it becomes a burden to the next generation. It is better that we reduce our cache while we are alive
• Be patient and to recognize people’s intentions.
• I must always stand up for myself and follow my heart, even if other people do not always agree with me or like it.

If you have kids around and you want them to read, Surprise them with this book. they would be thankful to you forever.

Sudha Murthy was one of the initial investors in the company. She is now the Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. She has been awarded the Padma Shri, and also been given honorary doctorate degrees.

Although it’s third book of Yashodhara Lal but Frankly speaking I never got a chance to read her before. So there was a little doubt if it was some another chick-lit, And when   I heard about the little bits and pieces of this book, It sounded interesting to me and without any delay, I grab a copy. And I’m happy to tell you I enjoyed it.  It is not some classic literary fiction, just plain simple romance.

The story revolves around an over-weight girl, named Trisha. She was in her late twenties and trying to survive in the world where people loved to judge. She worked in a firm related to publication and contented whereas she knew she couldn’t get promotion cause of her physical appearance. And then comes a twist in her life, named Sahil. Sahil was in mid-thirties, a geek kind of boy who believed that he has some superpowers. He can sense someone’s future just to get a little touch. Author weaved a intriguing story between two, there was romance, there was emotions, tantrums and last but not the least acceptance.

Besides of these two, there were some characters like Trisha’s nagging mother and her chess-lover father who was suffering from Alzheimer. Her friend Akanksha and some murder mystery.

If you are staying in metro cities, you can connect with Trisha so easily. The narrative skills of author flow smoothly. You don’t take a chance to put down the book before finished it. Although I found some extra material at the end, little bit tiring to read some extra pages when there was no need to add it. But overall book is interesting; characters are fun loving in their own way. And yes the most beautiful part of the book was letters and their replies. They made me laugh, touching sometimes.

Should I recommend Yashodhara’s work? Of course, Yes! If you want to spend a breezy night with light read. The book is for you.

'प्रसन्‍न रहना तो बहुत सहज है, परन्‍तु सहज रहना बहुत कठि‍न'

साहित्य के सर्वश्रेठ नॉबल पुरुस्कार से स्म्मानित “रवीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर” का नाम शिक्षा, कला, किताबें, रंगमंच, संगीत  सभी क्षेत्रों.. पर दस्तक देता है, हर विधा में पांरगत। भारत का राष्ट्रगान आप के द्वारा ही रचित है। मुख्य रूप से बंगाली में लिखने वाले टैगोर जी ने  भारत के साहित्य जगत को एक नई उचाइयों तक पहुंचाया था।

इनका लेखन किसी कालखंड विशेष वर्ग के लिए नहीं था । आज भी रवीन्द्र नाथ टैगोर सबसे अधिक पढे जाने वाले लेखको में से एक गैं। इनकी कहानियों में, कविताओं में एक तरफ मिट्टी की सौंधी खुशबू है वहीं दूसरी तरफ पश्चिमी संस्कृति..साहित्य से भारत का परिचय कराने में आपने कभी परहेज नहीं किया। इनके लेखन में नियम कानून आदि लफ्ज़ बेमानी लगता है... सृजन उन्मुक्त.. और शायद इसलिए आज भी उतने ही उत्साह से पढ़ा जा रहा है।

हालाकि मैं जिस किताब की बात कर रही हूँ, वो रवीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर की कहिनियों का अनुवाद मात्र है, माधवानंद सारस्वत जी ने एक अच्छी कोशिश की है, अगर आप हिन्दी में रवीन्द्र नाथ जी को पढ़्ना चाहते हैं तो किताब आपको निराश नहीं करती, हाँ अगर हिन्दी थोड़ी सरल होती तो पढ़ने में एक लय बनी रहती है.. यथा तथा रूककर नेट पर शब्दार्थ ढ़ूंढना कभी-कभी आपको थका देता है। लेकिन वहीं कहानियों का सार उनका मुख्यांश बनाये रखना बड़ी बात है यहां माधवानंद जी का प्रयास सराहनीय है।

यह किताब कुल दस कहानियों का संग्रह है जिसमें जीवन के हर पहलू का चुनकर कहानियों में ढाला गया है। संपादक ने रवीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर जी की कहानियों का चुनाव कुछ इस तरह किया है कि कहना मुश्किल होगा कौनसी कहानी दिल को छू गई..। 

अपरिचिता, पत्नी का पत्र, पोस्टमास्टर, दहेज़, पात्र और पात्री, एक रात, मुन्ने की वापसी, व्यवधान... इसी क्रम में पंसद की गई हैं। रामकन्हाई की मूर्खता और हालदार परिवार.. कुछ पेचीदगी के अहसास करवाती हैं, हिन्दी भाषा  में अच्छी पकड़ रखते हैं तो अवश्य पढिए।

She absorbed the murmur of dawn

Hindi Saahitya : Bimal Mitra

बिमल मित्र... शायद ही कोई हिन्दी साहित्य प्रेमी इस नाम से अनभिज्ञ होगा। बंगाली और हिन्दी भाषा में लेखन कला के लिए प्रसिद्ध बिमल मित्र जी के उपन्यास और कहानियाँ आज भी उसी चाव से पढ़ी जाती हैं। कहते हैं ना लेखक कभी मरते नहीं...वह अपने शब्दों में अपने पात्रों में जीवित रहते हैं। 

बिमल मित्र जी का जन्म 10 मार्च 1921 में हुआ। रेलवे विभाग में कार्यरत होने के कारण इन्हें भारत में कई जगहों को देखने का मौका मिला। उसी दौरान जन्य जीवन का निकट से अध्ययन किया। 1956 में नौकरी को अलविदा कह साहित्य लेखन से जुड़े। उपन्यास “साहब बीबी और गुलाम” इनकी मुख्य कृति है। जिस पर बनी फिल्म आज भी क्लासिक्स में रखी जाती है। 

इसके अलावा भी कई उपन्यास हैं जिन्हें किसी कालखंड में नहीं बाँधा जा सकता। बिमल मित्र जी की कहानियाँ हर वर्ग पढ़ता है। सब आसानी से बिमल मित्र जी द्वारा गढ़े पात्रों संग जुड़ाव महसूस करते हैं। कोई कृति सूकून देती है कोई उठल पुथल मचा देती है। हांलाकि ज्यादा नही पढ़ सकी बिमल जी को फिर भी...

ये नरदेह – मेरा परिचय बिमल मित्र जी के लेखन से इसी उपन्यास से हुआ। एक ऐसे रिश्ते की कहानी है जिसे किसी नाम में बांधना शायद मुमकिन ना हो, प्यार.. इश्क़.. बहुत ही छोटे शब्द है। संदीप लाहिरी और विशाखा मुख्य पात्र है जो कि आपको शायद प्यार की एक नयी परिभाषा सिखला दे। मुख्य पात्र प्यार में होकर भी कोई अधिकार नहीं मांगता और अपना सारा जीवन अपने प्यार के लिए खुशियाँ समेटने में बिता देता है। स्वार्थहीन प्रेम को बिमल मित्र जी ने अपने इस उपन्यास मे बखूबी दिखाया है! अगर आप को याद हो तो फिल्म अभिनेत्री ग्रेसी सिंह ने इस उपन्यास पर बने टी.वी सीरीयल में अभिनय भी किया था। जिसका प्रसारण दूर दर्शन पर “इंतजार और सही” के नाम से हुआ था। 

नायिका – बिमल मित्र जी की नायिका में मुख्य पात्र एक ऐसी महिला है जो कि समाज की नजरों में सम्पूर्ण होते हुए भी अधूरी है। अगर आपने हिन्दी सिनेमा जगत की “तीसरी कसम” देखी हो तो शायद को-रीलेट कर पाऎंगे। बिमल मित्र जी का लेखन संवेदनशील है.. जो कि आपको कहानी के अंत तक इंसानी वजूद के कई आयामों से रूबरू करवाता है। यह भी खूबी है बिमल जी की उनके पात्र यथार्थता के करीब रहकर ही कहानी को आगे बढ़ाते है। 

“सचमुच, मैडम को सम्भालना बड़ा ही टेढ़ा काम था। मैडम का किस वक्त कैसा मूड रहता है, यह शायद मैडम के सृष्टिकर्ता को भी नहीं मालूम था। रुपयों की या किसी फैशनेबल चीज की जरूरत हो, तब तो समझ में भी आए। लेकिन यह लड़की कब किस चीज के लिए खीज उठेगी, यह समझना किसी के वश की बात नहीं थी। बलाई सान्याल ने भी कम कोशिश नहीं की थी।“

सबसे उपर कौन – अपने इस उपन्यास में बिमल मित्र जी ने बंटवारे (Partition) का दर्द प्रस्तुत किया है। मुख्य पात्र आबिद एक डॉक्टर हैं जो कि अपना वतन ना“ छॉंड़ने का फैसला लेते हुए हिन्दुस्तान में ही रह जाते हैं। फिर कैसे वो एक अनाथ लड़की का पालन करते हैं ये जानते हुए  कि वो हिन्दु है...बिना किसी की परवाह किए अंत एक पिता का फर्ज निभाते है कहानी इन्ही के इर्द गिर्द घूमती है। 

बिमल मित्र की श्रेष्ठ कहानियाँ – अगर आप लघु कथा प्रेमी है तो बिमल जी की कहानियों का यह संकलन आपको अवश्य पढना चाहिए। हर कहानी आपको  अहसासों का एक नया ही रूप दिखाती है फिर भी मुझे.. “नाम, भूखी पीढ़ी, दूसरा पहलू और बेशर्म” बेहद पंसद आयी।  जिंदगी के किसी एक खण्ड को द्रर्शाने वाली ये कहानियाँ अखण्ड  हैं.. अपने आप में पूर्ण।

कगार और फिसलन – बिमल मित्र जी के उपन्यास “कगार और फिसलन” में इनके व्यक्तित्व का नया स्वरूप सामने आता है। पढ़कर लगा ये किसी ऐसे लेखक की रचना है जिसने भारत में इतनी रूढ़ियों के बीच जन्म लेकर अपने लेखन को उन्मुक्त रखा। अगर आपने मुराकामी की “ स्पुतनिक स्वीटहार्टस’ पढी हो तो आप जान जाएंगे कुछ ही पृष्ठ बाद कि कहानी की मुख्य पात्र मिस श्रॉफ का अंत इतना मर्मांतक क्यूँ था। 

वही इसी किताब की दूसरी कहानी अटल दा, कुंती और इंन्दुलेखा के मध्य घूमती है जो अंत में एक संदेश पर खत्म होती है कि किसी के बारे में पहली नज़र में राय बना लेना आपको मूर्ख साबित करता है और कुछ नहीं। कुल मिलाकर किताब पाठकों को अंत तक बांधे रखती है।

अभी तक बस इतना ही पढ पायी हूँ.. बिमल मित्र जी को.. जानती हूँ काफी कुछ बाकी है शायद यह किताबें ही हैं जिन्दगी में... जो थोड़ा और जीने के लिए मजबूर कर देती हैं...। 

HALF CUP OF COFFEE : A Short Story

She put down the novel on floor, as chirping of morning interrupted her reading. She stared at the windowpanes and felt warmness of light on her face. It was third night— she was helplessly sustaining it without sleep. Her eyes got swollen, lips got dry. She cupped the black mug into her palms, smelled it deeply, that aroma brought reminiscent of their love for half-cup-of-Joe. She sipped that salted coffee alone, she might have forgot the taste of her tears but would it ever be possible to forget those book-ed evenings in the circle of his arms?

Anklet, Heena and A Fear - A Poem

Jingling of my anklets reached to your heart,

You run towards me and encircled my soul into your warmth,

Words dissolved into wetness, twinkled into our eyes,

A heart-storming silence caught us still,

You glanced at my heena dyed footsteps,

And a smile emerged from your lips to mine,

“अगर पता हो लाईफ में आगे क्या होना है तो ज़िंदगी विडीयो गेम नहीं बन जाएगी?”

एक आम इंसान के दिमाग की कोडिंग कुछ इस तरह से की गई होती है कि वो सीखाने पर कम ऐक्शंस से ज्यादा सीखता है। जब कोई हमें समझाता है तो वो बात कभी काल्पनिक लगती और कभी लेक्चर। फिर भी लगता है जिंदगी हमारी है जीवन जीने का अंदाज़ भी हमारा होगा, फिर आती है कहानियाँ, लेखकों की ऐसी दुनिया जहाँ दर्द का अनुभव किए बिना दूसरों के अनुभवों से हम सीखते, उन्हें बकायदा महसूस करते हैं। हिन्दी साहित्य की भी अपनी दुनिया है जिसमें पिछले दिनों एक नया नाम जुड़ा ‘बेबाक – क़ंचन पंत’। हाँलाकि क़ंचन पंत एक नया नाम नहीं है इनकी कहानियाँ नीलेश मिश्र (Sir) क़े रेडियो शो YKIB में सुन चुके है सौ से उपर कहानियाँ लिख चुकी कंचन जी ने अपने श्रोताओं को बेबाक के रूप में यह खूबसूरत तोहफा दिया है। 

यूँ तो ग्यारह कहानियों का एक छोटा सा संग्रह है बेबाक जिसे एक दिन में पढ़ लिया मैंने। जहाँ भारी भरकम शब्द उबाऊ लगते है बेबाक का लेखन इस् सरलता से किया गया है कि लगता है एक नदी सी बह रही है और हम उसके पानी में पाँव डाले देख रहे हैं कहानी के पात्रों को आकार लेते हुए, या जैसे घास का हरा मैदान, खामोशी और कंचन जी की कहानियाँ कभी दिल को गुदगुदाती हुई कभी रुलाती हुई पर तय है अंत में कुछ ऐसा परोस देंगी आपकी हथेली पर कि लगेगा कितनी सारी लाइफ वेस्ट कर दी, अब वाकई जीना है” ये कोई सेल्फ-हेल्प टाइप बुक नहीं है बस आपको शायद याद दिला दे आपके जीवन का कोई Phase.. जब हज़ार नाकामयाबी के बावजूद आप जिंदग़ी काटते नहीं थे, जीते थे।

कहानी का हर पात्र अपनें में बिखरा हुआ फिर भी कितना पूर्ण, कितना जीवित। दरअसल कचंन जी की लेखनी की और उनके नज़रिये की तारीफ करनी होगी, हम खुद को खड़ा पाते हैं उनके लिखे लफ्ज़ों के बीच। लगता है लेखक ने हमारी ज़िंदगी से वो सच चुरा कर यहां लिख दिया जिसे खुद से कहने से भी डरते थे हम।

वैसे तो सारी कहानियों अपना अलग अंदाज लिए हुएँ है तुलना करना शायद गलत हो फिर भी मुझे, ‘धनपुतलियाँ, तितलियाँ, ट्रेन का हमसफर, हैप्पी बर्थ डे मिसेज त्रिपाठी, सफेद पंखों वाला सारस, एक थी प्रतीक्षा’ दिल के करीब लगी, रुला दिया मुझे, होठों पर एक मुस्कान के साथ। किताब पढ़ ली गई है पर लगता है शायद ही कभी पूरी पढ़ पाउँगी।

क़ंचन पंत जी की इस अनमोल किताब के लिए नीलेश जी और उनकी क़ॉंटेंट प्रोजेक्ट की पूरी टीम को शुभकामनाऐँ और हाँ कवर पेज (क़्रुतिका जोशी) भी बेहद खूबसूरत है, कहानियों के हर एक पात्र का सटीक चित्रण..!

पेशे से लेखक और पत्रकार है जो की 6 साल तक NDTV जुड़ी रही न्यूज रूम की हलचलों को जिया। और फिर कुछ नया करने का ख्वाब लिए लेखन क्षेत्र में कदम रखा। नीलेश मिश्र जी के शो के लिए 100 से उपर कहानियाँ, स्क्रिपट्स, स्क्रीनप्ले लिख चुकी, बेबाक कंचन जी की यह पहली किताब  है। जो कि अपनी सादगी से अपने अहसासो से दिल के अंदर चहल कदमी करती हैं।

जिस किताब का इंतजार काफी समय से था और पहली बार कोई किताब प्री-ऑर्डर करते वक़्त नहीं सोचा था कि वो इतनी सारी खुशियों के साथ मिलेगी। नीलेश जी ने यहाँ भी अपना अंदाज़ नही छोड़ा और यही बात उनको सबके बीच रहते हुए भी भीड़ से अलग करती है, कंचन जी की कहानियांँ गाँव कनेक्शन में लिपटी हुई आयीं। और साथ ही क़िताब में नीलेश जी के हस्ताक्षर। कहानियाँ पढ़के लगा जितना सोचा था... उससे कहीं ज्यादा मिला ।दिल से धन्यवाद..!
